In an attempt to keep up with the implementation of information technologies in the higher education area, the University of Rijeka accepted the e-University Project in 2003. The e-University Project sets the development of an information computer technology University infrastructure as its main goal. It strives to apply ICT in both teaching and research, developing the necessary human resources, new ICT-based study programmes along with raising the University of Rijeka's competencies for inclusion into international projects.
e-Learning at the University of Rijeka
e-Learning is education through use of information and communication technologies, first of all by using the Internet and a Learning Management System (LMS) for conducting online classes.
The Project of implementing e-Learning into higher education naturally leans on the e-University Project. Activities of e-Learning implementation in the 2005 – 2009 period were realized within the framework of the EQIBELT – Education Quality Improvement by E-Learning Technology Project.
The implementation of e-Learning was defined with the University of Rijeka E-Learning Implementation Strategy 2006-2010. Strategic goals as well as the necessary steps and strategies for their realization were determined. The Committee for implementation of e-Learning at the University of Rijeka has the task of implementing and monitoring results of annual actions plans for implementation of e-Learning, which are based on the Strategy.
Following the decision of the University of Rijeka Senate, Recommendations for the Formulation of Educational E-Learning Material were accepted, which served to set minimal technical and education standards of e-Learning as well as to define organization of the e-course along with intellectual property protection and copyright.
MudRi – The University of Rijeka’s Platform for E-Learning
Within the context of the University of Rijeka IT Academy a programme system for conducting online classes (LMS) has been implemented under the name of MudRi . Mudri is a system for conducting online classes based on the Moodle open code software. All members of the University of Rijeka academic community can freely use the system (teachers, students, and other university personnel), using the unified AAI@Edu identity which is provided for all members of the academic community.
Education for Implementation of e-Learning
The education programme e-Learning in teaching by which teachers acquire knowledge, skills and competencies for the implementation of e-Learning technologies is carried out as a regular lifelong learning programme at the University of Rijeka IT Academy.
Upon completion of the education programme, participants acquire knowledge and skills about handling e-Learning technologies, knowledge and skills concerning multimedia content, as well as how to use the MudriRi system (Moodle LMS) for the implementation of teaching material and adjacent tools in the University of Rijeka classes.
Within its tasks of providing required learning sources for studying at the University of Rijeka the Rijeka University Library offers help with formulating digitalized content as well as providing literature for e-courses.
