As one of 9 European universities brought together in a YUFE Alliance, the University of Rijeka became part of the YUFE4Postdocs programme at the end of 2023. YUFE4Postdocs (Y4P) is a programme co-funded by the Horizon Europe Marie Sklodowska-Curie programme. Two competitive YUFE4Postdocscalls resulted in the appointment of 55 excellent international incoming postdoctoral researchers at all YUFE universities: University of Antwerp, Maastricht University, University of Bremen, University of Essex, University of Cyprus, University of Eastern Finland, Carlos III University of Madrid, Nicolaus Copernicus University of Toruń, and the University of Rijeka.
Selected postdocs, appointed for three years, will be trained to become future-proof researchers, building bridges between academia and society. The call is intended for postdoctoral researchers at the beginning of their careers from all scientific disciplines. Candidates shall define their research projects addressing opportunities and challenges framed in an urban context within the YUFE focus areas: Sustainability or Digital Societies, and Citizen Well-being or European Identity.
YUFE Postdocs carry out their research training projects under the guidance of their chosen supervisor. Additionally, all postdocs have selected a co-supervisor at another YUFE university, and they will collaborate throughout the project, supported by an Intra-YUFE mobility. They will get personalised supervision and career guidance by two supervisors (at the host and co-host university) with a Career Development Plan as an individual roadmap.
With stakeholder interaction and Open Science at the heart of the YUFE4Postdocs programme, all postdocs will carry out their project in regular contact with one or more stakeholder organisations.
So far, thanks to the benefits of the YUFE4Postdocs programme, the University of Rijeka welcomed 7 new employees from Europe and the world.
