Would you like to do part of your study programme in, for example, Eastern Finland or Madrid? Would you like to include activities such as learning French or volunteering in Cyprus in your curriculum? Get familiar with YUFE, a European University that allows you to do all of that!
YUFE offers students the opportunity to create their own study programme by choosing courses and activities from 9 other YUFE universities.
Open YUFE programme
Open YUFE programme is a programme that all students of the University of Rijeka can enroll in – the only requirement is to speak English at a minimum B2 level.
With the Open YUFE, you get a chance to enroll in different YUFE courses and activities:
- University courses,
- Language courses and activities,
- Volunteering program,
- Entrepreneurship and innovation activities,
- Student mobility within the Erasmus programme,
- Individual lectures.
What comes after I complete a programme?
To earn a final certificate of the highest level (Open YUFE certificate), you need to meet the following requirements:
- Pass the academic courses in a minimum of 12 ECTS,
- Complete the YUFE Induction course,
- Receive at least 2 YUFE Stars (including a mobility star),
- Participate in the YUFE Academy (at least three lectures).
*YUFE Stars are an innovative way of recognizing extra-curriculum activities and students’ competencies. At the moment, YUFE recognizes activities through 4 different stars: for mobility, for language competencies, for civic engagement, and for professional development.
Recognition of ECTS credits/credentials
If it is important to you that your participation in the YUFE programme is recognized with ECTS credits as part of your study programme, we advise you to explore the possibility of such recognition in advance (before choosing a course/activity) with the programme coordinator/head of the study programme or an equivalent function in your study programme.

YUFE Minors
YUFE Minor is a 30 ECTS module, which combines academic content and a project based on challenges, delivered by several YUFE universities in the same semester.
YUFE Minors are delivered as a blended learning experience which includes physical mobility, online courses delivered by other YUFE universities and YUFE Challenges; an applied project in the local community.
When deciding which YUFE minor to apply for, you can check the details of the YUFE minors currently on offer, available in the YUFE virtual campus.
Physical mobility to the YUFE university where the minor is conducted is an integral part of the program, which is why you will later be asked to apply for a special call to secure Erasmus funding for your study mobility. The call for YUFE mobility was published on 1 March 2025, on the University of Rijeka website.
Express your interest if you wish to join one of these minors in the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year by filling out the application form, no later than 1 April 2025.

Other YUFE opportunities and activities
YUFE also offers numerous other activities in which all students of the University of Rijeka can participate. By participating in such activities, students meet and collaborate with colleagues from other YUFE universities and get the opportunity to develop different skills, taking into account their own preferences.
BIP on Cultural Event Management – From Theory to Practice at Cinehill Film Festival
This unique programme offers students with passion for cultural events and the arts an exciting opportunity to:
- Explore the Theory: Learn about the theoretical foundations of cultural event management by studying film festivals, their structures, and their role in global cinema.
- Experience the Practice: Participate hands-on in various festival activities, such as guest services, cinema maintenance, traffic management, visitor information, and media relations during the Cinehill Film Festival.
- Work with Professionals: Gain valuable experience working alongside mentors during five-hour shifts while attending theoretical sessions and engaging with key festival staff.
Upon completion, participants will have developed practical skills and gained professional insight into the world of cultural event management.

Challenge Teams
Students choose one of five real-world challenges to solve during the winter semester in international teams led by academic mentors from the YUFE university network.
The goal of the YUFE Challenge teams is to provide new and innovative solutions on a social, scientific, and technological level.
Participation in the YUFE Challenges allows students to apply for the YUFE Star programme and earn the YUFE Professional Star. With such accreditation system, students will be recognized for the above activities and listed in their diploma.

YUFETHON
An online competition that brings together teams to solve specific problems and encourage and support innovation, talent development, and ideas with social added value. Each year, participants in the YUFETHON competition have the opportunity to win a ticket to the incubation programme, which takes place in one of ten YUFE cities.

Language Café
Would you like to sharpen your conversational skills, have fun, and make new friends? Grab a cup of coffee, turn on your computer and join our Online Café!
You will meet a group of language learners online once a week to engage in causal conversation in foreign language, lead by native speaker!
Who can participate?
- If you are enrolled in YUFE Student Journey.
- If you are interested in working on your conversational skills in YUFE University languages.
- If you have at least basic knowledge of the target language. You can enrol in a low, intermediate, high intermediate, or advanced (English only) Café.
- If you are available for 8 sessions of 90 minutes each during the first semester.
In the academic year 2023/2024, YUFE offers an Online Language Café in Polish, Dutch, Finnish, French, and English.
