To celebrate this year’s Europe Day, YUFE Alliance is back with a rich YUFE Academy programme! In May and June, you can expect a series of lectures, workshops, and events open to all interested citizens, students, and staff, hosted by YUFE Alliance partner universities.
The programme kicks off on May 9, Europe Day, at the University of Bremen, and in the following weeks, numerous events will be held covering topics such as disinformation, artificial intelligence, current trade turmoil, multilingualism in research, cooking, and even memes. You are welcome to join events in English online, and in addition to the lectures and workshops, you will be able to virtually attend an international panel on citizens’ trust in the judiciary in EU member states, Can we trust the courts?, which will also feature Prof. Dr. Ivana Kunda from the Faculty of Law in Rijeka, and join the central event of the YUFE Academy.
For the first time, the central hybrid event on May 22 at 3.00 PM (15:00) will take place simultaneously at 4 partner universities, hosted by the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) in Joensuu in cooperation with the local event SciFest, University of Essex, Maastricht University, and the Nicolaus Copernicus University of Toruń (NCU). Professor Heidi Hyytinen from UEF will give a lecture on Critical thinking – a set of skills needed in the age of misconceptions, followed by a short workshop on the topic and a space for exchange of views. By providing a platform for international discussion, the aim is to exploit the full potential of the YUFE Alliance.
We have recently witnessed turmoil in trade policies on a global level that will affect everyday life. Therefore, on May 16 at noon (CET), the University of Rijeka joins Europe Day celebrations with an online lecture How could the Common Trade Policy jeopardize or save the European Union?, which will be held by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Igor Cvečić from the Faculty of Economics in Business in Rijeka.
This topic is motivated by uncertainty about the future of the European Union and (de)globalization trends, which include protectionist trade policies (e.g., Donald Trump’s tariffs) and the threat of trade wars. It is important to understand that this will affect business environments, investments, jobs, and international travel, which could harm the economic prospects and well-being of Europeans. A potential new world order could emerge, and Europe’s position and stability are at stake. The deadline for registration for this lecture is May 15 at 23:59 (CET). Learn more about the lecture and register at the link.
Participation in the YUFE Academy is free of charge, with mandatory registration for each event.
