The Innovation Laboratory – InnovaLab of the University of Rijeka is proud to be among this year’s recipients of the BIG SEE Architecture Award 2025 in the ‘Winner’ category. The BIG SEE Architecture & Interior Design Awards recognize visionary architecture that redefines buildings, interiors, and environments to inspire creativity and improve how we live, work, and connect.

The Innovation Laboratory is envisioned as a modern, functional space dedicated to innovation, education, and collaborative work. Designed for flexibility, the building accommodates up to 80 people, offering optimal conditions for productivity and cooperation. The architectural design is credited to a team of architects at ZDL Studio: Antonija Plavotić, Siniša Zdjelar, Nino Ćubelić, Mihajlo Neimarević, and Konstantin Ninković.

This year’s international selection committee consists of 19 renowned architects and designers from the Netherlands, Finland, France, the USA, the UK, Norway, Spain, France, Portugal, Germany, Japan, Belgium, and Sweden. The projects were assessed according to the following criteria: innovation, smart design and originality, environmental sensitivity and sustainability, cultural and social awareness, and functionality (how the project met the set requirements).

Launched in 2018, the BIG SEE Awards are presented each year in the framework of the Month of Design, and one of its biggest events, the BIG Architecture Festival. All of this year’s selected projects automatically enter into the selection for the BIG SEE Grand Prix, which will be awarded during the final evening of the BIG Architecture Festival on May 23.
