It is with great pleasure that we announce that at the session of the YERUN General Assembly held today, September 16, 2021, the Rector of the University of Rijeka, Prof. Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., was unanimously elected the new president of YERUN. Rector Prijić-Samaržija’s two-year presidency starts on September 17, 2021. Coordination of member universities is led with the help of the YERUN central office in Brussels, and the President is supported by the Executive Board.
The University of Rijeka officially joined YERUN in February this year, thus confirming its science and research quality. Our University is the first Croatian university to join YERUN since its founding and the first university from Central and Eastern Europe to join this prestigious network.
YERUN members are research-oriented universities, placed among the 50 best-ranked universities in Europe, and their basic goals are to strengthen and develop cooperation in the field of research, academic education, and cooperation with society. YERUN’s strategic activities are focused on cooperation in the field of education and research, shaping future European education policies, employability of graduates, and open-science policies.
YERUN currently has 19 member universities, and of the eight universities invited to join YERUN, four have expressed further interest in joining the network, namely the University of Stirling (Scotland, UK), University of South-Eastern Norway (Norway), University of Klagenfurt (Austria) and the University of Potsdam (Germany).
We are convinced that under the leadership of the Rector Prof. Snježana Prijić-Samaržija YERUN will launch new initiatives, bring new perspectives and fresh energy to the mission of the Network, and cooperate to respond to the development challenges of the societies in our communities, adopting a European perspective on global issues.
