The much-anticipated Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists List for 2025 has been officially released! This prestigious list highlights the world’s leading scientists who have made a substantial impact in their respective fields through their citation influence. For researchers, institutions, and science enthusiasts alike, this is a vital resource to recognize excellence and track cutting-edge scientific contributions.
Developed jointly by Stanford University and Elsevier, this list identifies the top 2% of scientists worldwide by standardized citation metrics. It evaluates research impact using career-long and single-year citation data across 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields to ensure fair and comprehensive representation. The 2025 update uses data indexed by Scopus as of August 1, 2025, covering citations up to the end of 2024.
The updated list includes 129 Croatian scientists working in Croatian higher education institutions and institutes, which is 13 more than in 2023. The list of the most cited scientists throughout their entire research careers includes 96 Croatian scientists, which is 14 more than in the previous cycle. The data clearly demonstrate the growth and strengthening of the influence of Croatian scientists in the global research arena.
