Hungarian Language Lectorate at UNIRI

The ceremony of signing an Agreement on establishing a Hungarian Language Lectorate at the UNIRI Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was held on March 5th, 2020 at the ceremonial hall of the Hungarian Institute in Zagreb. The Agreement was signed by Mr. Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Affairs, Prof. Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., UNIRI Rector, and Prof. Ines Srdoč Konestra, Ph.D., Dean of the UNIRI Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The Agreement signing is a fruitful result of a working meeting held in September 2019 with H.E. Mr. József Zoltán Magyar, Ambassador of Hungary to the Republic of Croatia, and Ms. Anita Györei, Counsellor and Permanent Deputy Ambassador.

The Hungarian Language Lectorate will be established at the Department of Croatian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, modeled on already established lectorates for Polish, Macedonian and Slovenian. University of Rijeka students will have an opportunity to choose an elective course where they would learn the Hungarian language as well as find out more about the Hungarian culture and civilization, and mutual history of Hungarian and Croatian languages and nations.

Students will be able to enroll in the Hungarian language courses in the next academic year.
