International Workshop: Interdisciplinary Perspectives On Decision-Making Processes

09.06.2021. / news / university and community

The University of Rijeka is organizing a scientific conference to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue about different aspects of decision-making processes. Decision-making is simultaneously an individual, collective, and institutional procedure, which is why this issue allows for interpretations from psychology, cognitive science, political philosophy, philosophy of science, epistemology, and philosophy of psychiatry. At the conference, we will question the quality of the decisions arising from the wisdom of crowds in democratic systems and the wisdom of the decisions made by smaller groups defined by prejudice. Debates will generally revolve around the quality of democratic decisions, trust in experts, critical thinking, science, and the sources of rationality and irrationality. We will also tackle the themes of self-reflection, deception, and self-deception, anti-social personalities, neuro-diversity, and the good life.

The conference welcomes three keynote speakers: Dražen Prelec (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan), Danica Mijović Prelec (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan), Mirta Galešić (Santa Fe Institute), and scientists from the University of Rijeka.

The conference’s official language is English.
