At the solemn election session of the Senate of the University of Rijeka held on Friday, 26 February 2021, at the UNIRI Rectorate, Prof. Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., has been re-elected for her second term of office by a unanimous decision of all members of the Senate.
The election session was held in the Aula Magna of the Rectorate, with a minimum number of members and in compliance with current epidemiological measures. The Committee for the Implementation of the Procedure of the Election of the Rector of the University of Rijeka for the 2021-2025 term of office has been appointed, headed by Prof. Vesna Crnić Grotić, Ph.D. The Committee was in charge of monitoring and ensuring the legality and regularity of the secret ballot in the rector election procedure and determined the voting results.
The Rector is elected by secret ballot by the Senate consisting of 24 members (Madam Rector of the University of Rijeka, 12 deans of the faculties/the Academy, 4 heads of university departments, 2 representatives of other constituents, and 5 student representatives).
It should be mentioned that the University Senate at its 48th session held on 22 December 2020 opened the rector election procedure by the Decision on the Initiation of the Procedure for the Election of the Rector of the University of Rijeka for the 2021-2025 term of office and the appointment of the Committee for the Collection of Applications for the Position of Rector. The following persons were appointed to the Committee: Prof. Vesna Crnić Grotić, Ph.D., Faculty of Law; Assoc. Prof. Ines Srdoč-Konestra, Ph.D., Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Assoc. Prof. Goran Hauser, M.D., Ph.D., Faculty of Medicine; Lea Lazzarich, University Library Rijeka, and Leopold Mandić, Student Council of the University of Rijeka. Applications were collected between January 4 and January 25. The Committee for the Collection of Applications for the Position of Rector held a session on 26 January and determined that the application of the candidate Prof. Snježana Prijić Samaržija, Ph.D., had been submitted, of which the Committee informed the Senate at its 49th session held on 28 January.
The candidate presented her programme to the members of the Senate at its 50th session held on 15 February, and to the Student Council of the University of Rijeka on 16 February.
