Dr. Vanja Smokvina, associate professor at the UNIRI Faculty of Law and Head of the Center and Jean Monnet Chair of Sports Law, Politics in Sport and Sports Diplomacy, was once again appointed as an arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), based in Switzerland, by the decision of the International Council of Arbitration in Sport (ICAS).
CAS is the world’s highest legal instance for the resolution of disputes in sport, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the appointment applies to both of their lists of arbitrators. On the general list (for all sports), Vanja Smokvina is one of two arbitrators from Croatia and still the only Croat of that distinguished Court to be appointed to a special list that deals with issues related exclusively to football, whose cases cover more than 80% of all disputes.
