More than 160 students are starting the first year of the YUFE Joint Bachelor in Urban Sustainability Studies this autumn across seven European universities – and the University of Rijeka is one of their starting universities. Welcome Day on 21 September 2026 at the Faculty of Economics and Business was a begining of new academic year in a way that reflects an international study programme – by bringing together new people, languages, experiences and universities.
University welcomed new generation of students who are beginning their YUFE Bachelor journey at our University, as well as second-year students who have arrived from Madrid and Antwerp to spend their third semester in Rijeka, taking the Urban Inequality Minor.
Welcome Day was an opportunity to share some of the first important information, but even more importantly, to get to know one another. The Head of the Study Programme, Professor Zoran Ježić, introduced the students to the programme and what they can expect during their studies in Rijeka. They were also joined by teachers, academic advisors and staff members from the University Centre for Studies, Students and Quality Assurance, who will be among their first points of contact for support and practical questions throughout their studies.
After the introductory part, the programme continued in a more relaxed atmosphere, with coffee and conversation. The students were also joined by the Vice-Rector for Studies, Students, Quality Assurance and Internationalisation, Professor Irena Vodopija-Krstanović, who personally welcomed them and wished them a successful start to their student experience in Rijeka.
For the second-year students, the day soon continued in the classroom with their Urban Inequality Minor, while the first-year students had a little more time for first conversations, getting to know one another and settling into their new environment.
A study programme across Europe
The YUFE Bachelor gives students the opportunity to experience different universities and cities, choose Minors, study in different academic environments and work on real-life challenges faced by contemporary cities.
The students who have arrived in Rijeka will have the chance to learn, explore, experience and discover many new things – but also to meet new people, find their favourite places in the city, have fun and take home memories that will last much longer than a semester or an academic year.
