15th Sport & EU Conference and EU Sports Law, Policy & Diplomacy Rijeka Summer School

11.06.2021. / news / About the University

It is with great pleasure that we would like to invite you to a special week of sports law, policy & diplomacy, called 5th Rijeka EU Sports Law, Policy & Diplomacy Days (14-20 June 2021, to be held virtually in Rijeka, Croatia). The event includes two high-level events: the 15th Sport & EU Conference and EU Sports Law, Policy & Diplomacy Rijeka Summer School.

15th Sport & EU Conference
The conference is organised by the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law and its Sports Law, Sports Policies and Sports Diplomacy Centre (Croatia), the Association for Sport & EU, and the International Sports Law Journal. The conference will see the participation of around 100 paper and panel paper givers and we expect more than 300 participants.

Given the current circumstances, the conference has to be organized online (via Cisco Webex), but it will at least allow us to get together, discuss the latest research, and support one another in these difficult times. The conference will run from 14 to 17 June in shorter sessions, to avoid online and screen fatigue. One of the few advantages of not being able to get together in person is that we were able to reduce the registration fee. Registration for this year’s conference is just €15, and it is free for students and Ph.D. students.

You can find all the information about the conference on our website as well: https://www.sportandeu.com/2021-onlineconference. To attend the conference, please register via the following registration form: https://forms.gle/nqJ2xiyGpoe8xLHe8.

The link to pay the conference fee can be found here: https://webshop.pravri.hr/en/conferences/14-sporteu-2021-annual-conference-online-june-15-18.html.

The special guests and key-note speakers at our conference will be Mrs. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović (International Olympic Committee Member and former President of the Republic of Croatia), Mr. Julien Zylberstein (Chief of Governance & Stakeholder Affairs and Senior adviser of the President at UEFA); Prof. Marko Ilešič, Ph.D. (Judge at the CJEU); Prof. Vesna Tomljenović, Ph.D. (Judge at the General Court, CJEU); Prof. Michele Colucci, Ph.D. (FIFA DRC Member and Wolter Kluwer Encyclopaedia on Sports Law Editor) and Prof. Siniša Petrović, Ph.D. (the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Law and CAS Arbitrator). The conference is organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Republic of Croatia.

We hope to see (virtually) many of you at our conference. In case you need more info, please do not hesitate to contact us at rijeka.sport.law@gmail.com.

EU Sports Law, Policy & Diplomacy Rijeka Summer School
We are also extremely delighted to announce the EU Sports Law, Policy & Diplomacy Rijeka Summer School, a joint initiative of the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law and its Sports Law, Sports Policies and Sports Diplomacy Centre (Croatia), and the Sport & EU Association. The School will take place online from 18 to 20 June via Cisco Webex.

The Summer School is completely free of charge, and participants can obtain 4 ECTS credits accredited by the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law, upon completing the program. The participants will need to attend the whole summer school and for each session give the answers to questions raised by the respective speakers.

Speakers include high-caliber academics: Carmen Pérez González (Carlos III University, Spain and YUFE partner), Richard Parrish (Edge Hill University, UK and Sport&EU Honorary Chair), Jacopo Tognon (University Ca’ Foscari Italy, CAS Arbitrator), Borja García García (Loughborough University, UK), David McArdle (Stirling University Law School, Scotland, UK), Simon Rofe (SOAS University of London, UK) and Andrea Cattaneo (Edge Hill University, UK). The Summer School is organized under the auspices of the European Commission representation in Croatia.

More information can be found on the Sport & EU website: https://www.sportandeu.com/2021-onlineconference. For taking part in the summer school, please register via the following form: https://forms.gle/JjEXGEY9HYQswUoh9.
