International Women’s Day – Madam Rector’s Message

08.03.2020. / news / About the University

Dear women of the University of Rijeka, dear colleagues!

On behalf of the University Management and my behalf, I would like to wish you a happy International Women’s Day! Many people today still question whether we should celebrate the 8th of March, International Women’s Day. We definitely should. Throughout more than a century-long fight for the equal rights that men have always had, women have accomplished a lot, especially in the western world. I am proud to say that we are the University with about the same number of men and women in the University Senate, as well as in other bodies, management positions and even the University Management itself. These numbers are sometimes in favor of women, and it is important to point out that we did not accomplish that by implementing the measures of positive discrimination as obligatory and imposed standards. I would also like to point out that the number of our new female and male doctors of science is about the same, which is a great indicator that women very much so have the space for career development in science and higher education.

Semper magis!
