Ovogodišnja proljetna Generalna skupština YERUN-a održana je od 14. od 16. ožujka u Irskoj. Službeni početak sjednice označila je predsjednica YERUN-a i rektorica Sveučilišta u Rijeci prof. dr. sc. Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, a u ime domaćina sve rektore, predstavnike sveučilišta i institucijske koordinatore pozdravila je predsjednica Sveučilišta u Limericku prof. dr. sc. Kerstin Mey.
Nakon što je na prošlogodišnjoj sjednici u Maastrichtu usvojena odluka o prihvaćanju novoga člana, Sveučilišta Nikola Kopernik u Torunu, sastanku u Limericku prvi puta prisustvovali su i predstavnici poljskog sveučilišta.
Prvoga dana trodnevnog druženja sudionici su imali priliku poslušati online predavanje koje je održao prof. dr. sc. Jamil Samli, globalni stručnjak za tercijarno obrazovanje. Do siječnja 2012. godine obnašao je funkciju koordinatora za tercijarno obrazovanje Svjetske banke, a tijekom dugogodišnje karijere njegove su usluge savjetovanja koristile brojne svjetske vlade, sveučilišta, stručne organizacije i agencije.
Čelnici sveučilišta sudjelovali su u raspravama i radionicama posvećenima budućnosti visokog obrazovanja. Naglasak je stavljen na strateški pristup novim pristupima u obrazovanju te kako izgraditi smislenu organizacijsku strukturu koja bi pomogla u stvaranju moguće ili poželjne budućnosti.
Središnji ured YERUN-a u Bruxellesu ukratko je predstavio dosadašnje aktinosti i rezultate radnih skupina, a čelnicima sveučilišta predstavljena je ideja o ulaganju u zajedničku istraživačku platformu, koju je razvio SDU (University of Southern Denmark). S obzirom na cilj širenja mreže i prihvaćanja novih članova, raspravljalo se i mogućim sveučilištima u zemljama u kojima YERUN još nije prisutan, a posebno je istaknuto i pitanje budućeg budžeta i mogućnost povećanja iznosa godišnje članarine.
Sljedeća, jesenska sjednica Generalne skupštine održat će se u listopadu 2023., a za domaćina je izabrano Sveučilište NOVA u Lisabonu.

Pic Arthur Ellis. 16.03.23 REPRO FREE Whistle-stop tour: Large group of European university leaders visit University of Limerick campus University of Limerick this week hosted a large gathering of European university leaders as part of the three-day Young European Research Universities Network (YERUN) General Assembly (March 14-16). 23 presidents and rectors from institutions across Europe attended and took part in a host of activities on campus, as well as visiting attractions across the region. On a whistle stop tour of the campus, led by Marketing and Communications Director Laura Ryan, the group were brought to the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, where they met Associate Director Niall Keegan, who gave the group a lesson in using the tin whistle. YERUN, founded in 2016, brings together like-minded young research universities in Europe, with the primary objective of raising the voice of young universities in Europe via a dedicated strategic representation and lobbying action and strengthening their cooperation, maximising opportunities to collaborate in areas of mutual interest and benefit. UL joined the network in February 2021 and UL President Professor Kerstin Mey said: “It is important to see the continued thriving of the network and UL is privileged to be included among the ranks of a cluster of highly ranked, young research universities in Europe.
